Autism Anxiety

Autism is a growing issue. As parents we are always looking out for signs of our child showing any such symptoms. As a “future” mother (in about 6 months’ time), this particular question nags at me every once in a while. As we become more aware of the symptoms of autism we tend to panic more. But we must remember it is to our advantage that we know the symptoms of autism, and if our child does shows any, we can get help immediately. Early intervention plays such an important role to make our child’s life a better one.

As a professional who is working with children with autism it gives me hope that we can help our children to live a better life. In my experience I have seen kids being able to start enjoying toys, trying out different food, communicating either expressively or receptively, able to do their daily chores  independently, and many other improvements.

What if you find out if your child has autism? Acknowledge the fact that your child has autism, get all your resources, embrace your child, protect your child, teach your child and nurture your child. Your child, just like any other child will come with his/her fair share of talents, challenges and special gifts. As a parent we shouldn’t blame ourselves for what we did wrong but instead celebrate that we are going to raise a wonderful child who happens to be unique.

A few other unique children who grew up to be very valuable to the people around them are Temple Grandin, Albert Einstein, Mark Zuckerberg, and Bill Gates and list can go on and on and on.

I hope this article will help us all view autism not as a disease, but as a different way of life.
